From the top of Sierra Espuña…Our adventure

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

A group of our owners at Condado De Alhama took themselves this week on a walking/driving adventure of the Sierra Espuña. Many people go to the beaches and the coves in the region of Murcia but very few take the short drive to the national park in the Espuñas. Luckily, our friends had their cameras handy and were able to share some of their pictures and tales with us.

Fred and Bernie Twomey,
Alicia and Ken Saunders
Jan and Eli Holdiss
Jan Jackobsen
Ian Gibson

The wild boars pictured above were seen at the Fuente del Hilo restaurant where you can enjoy a menu del dia for just 8 Euros…main course Pork! or you enjoy the picnic area with plenty of BBQ stands.
Continuing further up the mountain you come to the ice houses..

then all the way to the top, to what looks like a white ball from Condado on top of the mountain,
Pedro Lopez which is near the weather station/military base.

¨We got to march with the military for a short while, the views were spectacular, it was the best day out we have ever had in Murcia¨ Oh and did we mention the wild life…the Barbary Sheep and the Eagles..

If you prefer a more guided tour, contact Mark at Hotel Mariposa, he provides winter guided tours of the Espuñas, walking, quad biking and kayak, contact details to the right of this page Experience Espuña.

If you haven´t visited the mountains in the area yet, take it from our friends here, it is well worth the day, young and old alike will find something to wow them. Good old fashioned running, climbing and jumping for the kids..

It can be a little chilly at the top of the mountain in the winter, so wrap up warm. In the summer months you will enjoy the welcome relief from the heat walking amongst the pine trees.

Thank you to Ken and Alicia and our other friends for providing the pictures and their experience for us to share with you.

Submit your holiday pictures and favourite places to us. Show and Tell..go on. And lets discover all of Murcia together in 2012.

Sierra Espuna Murcia Spain

Murcia, if you have not visited the region of Murcia in Spain it is time you took a good look at what you are missing out on. Murcia has been named “The Mini Continent”. Similar to Los Angeles in America, Murcia can offer you, Mountains, Sea, city and rural life. Something for everyone. It can also offer golfing enthusiasts some of Europes best golf courses, like the one at Condado De Alhama, designed by Jack Nicklaus. The course at Condado De Alhama is a signature course and although new, has already been named as one of the best golf courses in Spain.

Lets take a look at some of the Murcia attractions and you will soon see that it is no wonder Paramount a Los Angeles based company chose Murcia for it’s first European Theme Park.

The Mar Menor

The Mar Menor, one of Europes best watersport playgrounds, a thin strip of land dividing the little sea, (Mar Menor) and the Mediterranean.

Cartagena, with it’s Roman Amphitheatre, castle port area and sandy beaches.

Cartagena A city full of surprises.

Sierra Espuna, situated in the very centre of the region of Murcia, with more than 25,000 hectares, forming part of the Andalusian ranges and stretching between Mula and the Guadalentín valley. Here you can enjoy the best of the mountain life, hiking trails, quad biking and kayaking,  you can even jump off a mountain if you like that sort of thing..paracending is very popular here.

Murcia City A city full of culture and heritage. A city that you will fill welcome in. Spend the day visiting some of the historical cites, enjoy the many tapa bars or simply find a seat and watch the hustle and bustle of the city pass you by.

Condado De Alhama, sits conveniently in the middle of all this, only 20 minutes from the beach, 20 minutes from the mountains and 20 minutes from the city.

The season is long in Murcia otherwise known as the Costa Calida which means the warm coast and has been recommended by the world health organization as one of the healthiest place to live in Europe. People are also attracted to the area due to its 300 days of sunshine each year and an average temperature of 22ºC.

So before you book your holiday this year, take a look at Murcia, and at Condado De Alhama Golf Resort.

Murcia, Spains best kept secret…is out.

CHRISTMAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Christmas is just around the corner and here  in our Region of Murcia, Spain,  Mother Nature has begun her part in decorating the local mountains. In the distance we spotted snow around the Lorca mountains and as we came back from Alhama de Murcia with the weeks groceries, it tried to snow on us.  The clouds are settling down on top of all the hills tonight and tomorrow should reveal  if she had her way with spreading the white stuff all over our mountain tops.

Thank you to everyone that tuned in live to chat,
