Sierra Espuna Murcia Spain

Murcia, if you have not visited the region of Murcia in Spain it is time you took a good look at what you are missing out on. Murcia has been named “The Mini Continent”. Spotted in Aguilas

Before you head out to the beach this year take a look at what could be lurking in the water. The Portuguese Man O War has been spotted for the 2nd year running in Aguilas and around the Murcia coastline. 50 were spotted off the coast of San Pedro De Pinatar this week, our choice for this weeks podcast, and in Cartagena they reported that 1 was spotted on a local beach.

The Portugese Man O War is a jelly like marine invertebrate which is not a single animal but actually a colony of 4 kinds of minute individuals. A sting from the Portuguese Man O War will ruin your day at the beach, it is said to be very painful and cause welt like abrasions that can last up to 3 days.

La Verdad this morning also confirmed that the proceedings have ended very well between Polaris and their creditors with a very agreeable settlement.

The head of the Commercial Court number 2 of Murcia yesterday issued an order which gives the final shelved bankruptcy that for four months, has remained at Polaris World on the brink. The company breathes and calm after last Thursday, draining the time, closed an agreement with four banks and that has allowed up to the insolvency of fifteen of its subsidiaries. Condado De Alhama golf course along with Mar Menor and La Torre are now under the new management of OLAGOLF.

OlaGolf was created by the famous golfer Jose Maria Olazabalout of Madrid and their arrival to the resorts can only be seen as a positive step. They are the organizers and partner with Audi golf sport and Canal + golf…..it appears that this hand over has been in the cards for a while. Yesterday Olagolf was at the resort to handle the hand over personally.

Jack Nicklaus name will remain with the three golf courses. Golf membership packages will remain active, good news for owners that had purchased lifetime and yearly golf packages from Polaris World.

This news will ease fears and rumors that the golf course will close or in some cases had closed.

Everything on the resort remains as normal with news that Polaris world have emerged from this strong and ready to continue, now debt free…. Should be interesting in the coming months.

Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Condado De Alhama

Polaris world in the final hour literally, made an agreement with the banks to avoid bankruptcy. The law in Spain allowed until 3PM yesterday for the agreement to be made with it’s creditors. Polaris World negotiated 100 million to allow liquidity until the housing market recovers.

Smiles all around today on the resort as this welcome news is announced among the residents and owners. Assets have been sold on the resort so we will be watching for any sign of change and will bring it to you as it happens.

Moving forward, we can now look forward to our first televised tournament at Condado De Alhama as Canal+ prepares for the golf tournament on Condado De Alhama this weekend.

Hotel Mar Menor

Easter, it seems was not only busy on Condado De Alhama, but the whole region of Murcia saw some pretty impressive tourism numbers as people flocked to the area hotels for the Holy week or Pink bunny week if you are from anywhere else.

The average occupancy in the major cities of the Murcia reached 81.7 percent and 80 percent Lorca, but an impressive 100% from Thursday to Sunday.

The network of spas and thalassotherapy centers of the region,  in some cases showed an increase in visitors by 8 percent over the same period in 2009. These numbers have installed a great feeling of optimism for the summer season in the region of Murcia Spain, which had been fearing a slow down in tourism to the area.

Murcia’s tourism saw an increase above that of Barcelona and other more established destinations. Bring on the sun!
