“Curtain Call” Finish work on a super Yacht

Thursday, June 19th, 2014

Sally and Peter are owners on Condado and run their company ‘Curtain Call’, which is Condado’s number 1 choice for curtains and upholstery, share with us their story as they finish work on a super yacht.

Sally tell us,  ”Nearly every year we get asked to do at least one slightly unusual project.  This year we got a call from the captain of a super yacht to ask us to quote for curtains and upholstery as he was coming into Cartagena for a winter refit.

Our job was to produce curtains twenty five metres long and almost five metres high to divide up the hanger of the yacht which doubles up as a disco hall during the summer months when the yacht does luxury trips around the Med with clients.  We  got on very well with the crew who were Australians and New Zealanders.  We never met the owner, who is Russian, but he must have quite liked us as he ordered the crew to give us a bottle of his personal champagne when we finished.  Of course Sally had to look it up on the internet and in the process discovered that it was on offer that week in ‘selected’ branches of Sainsbury’s at fifty eight pounds per bottle!  We had a long discussion on whether we could ever bring ourselves to pay that much for just one bottle of champagne and concluded that we might go out there with the intention of buying a bottle (it was really quite nice) but at the last minute we would probably chicken out and buy three bottles at twenty pounds each – much more fun!

Anyway, we also ended up producing sea-proof covers for the bar and the Jacuzzi on the helicopter deck and some canvas window panels  before they announced that they had to leave to go to Monaco for the Grand Prix where the owner had rented a trackside mooring. How the other half lives hey!”

Back in the real world, if you have upholstered patio furniture which is looking a bit tired, we have two ranges of outdoor fabrics which are durable, colourful, fade resistant and very reasonably priced.  We can do complete set of new cushions for you in better quality fabric and foam than the suite probably had when new, for a lot less than buying a  new set of chairs or sun beds.

Saturday Evening Market 2014 Condado De Alhama

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014

Its a sure sign that the summer season has begun, our summer Saturday market will begin again Saturday 21st June at 6PM.

As always the market inauguration will be a kick off party to our summer nights on Condado De Alhama. The evenings have warmed up enough that you can enjoy a stroll down to Al Kasar to enjoy one of the many bars and restaurants.

It seems a little quieter than usual on the resort at the moment but all that is set to change as the schools begin the break up for the holidays.

Remember to support your bars and restaurants this summer, they have all made it through another long quiet winter season.

We hope to see everyone out on Saturday night for the start of SUMMER 2014!

Finca Butrón, join in the adventure and be a part of our local community outside the gates of Condado

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014
farm picture
Below is an article submitted by a local farmer, Antonio Hernandez Benitez, inviting you to his finca to grow your own produce with him and also learn a little about this area of Spain we have all come to love.
“Hola amigos!
Finca butrón is an old finca not far from Condado, only 7 minutes away. My family has owned this land now for 300 years, going right back to the time when Fuente Alamo was created and the first families moved into this area. The original families moved here because they were given free land to cultivate. This is actually the origin of most of the names of the villages around Condado and Camposol.
Los Canovas, Los Muñoces, Cuevas de Reyllo, Los Almagros, all these names are all surnames of these families who came here during those times, Canovas,Muñoz, Reyllo, Almagro etc. Our family still has our first family house not far away from the farm.
In the 90´s our farm was not used anymore by my parents and since this time it has almost been abandoned, but now, for different reasons I want to bring the farm back to life so I am starting a new project, a new adventure, the first organic free range farm in the area.
At the moment, I am doing all the paper work and licences etc, and I am also working on the reform work and adaptation to a free range hen farm.
The idea and project is to be able to produce quality produce based on ecology and local tradition.
In addition to this I also have a large area available that we used in the past to have our own allotment many years ago where we also have olives trees to produce our own olive oil.
In this area we can now offer allotments to you for rent.
The allotments we have are from 50m2 up to 5000m2 and water and maintenance are both included in the price, so with really low rent you can enjoy a piece of our land and grow your own organic produce. We do all the hard work with the fields for you so you dont need to be worry about working too hard in this hot weather.
The soil is very good, it is an agricultural soil, clean of chemical and pesticides. The soil around here is very different to England but it can be very productive without using so much compost, as you can see around locally in El Pareton, Totana etc in the agrucultural fields.
The farm is located in a real and peaceful Spanish agricultural area, full of history and nature, very quiet and totally perfect for enjoying your allotment, you can use your area to grow flowers, fruits, vegetables or maybe just grow a few favourite plants or enjoy having a BBQ with a small cottage, or even just have an small nursery or greenhouse, somewhere to enjoy biking or just walking around …… we are open to your thoughts and ideas for your allotment.
If you would like to join us in this new adventure please contact us directly on 680753819 or e mail us or visit our Facebook page and send us a message
Contact us now for our summer offers as well as a 50% discount for children.
thanks so much
muchas gracias”
