Therapeutic Mud Baths at Playa Paraiso Mar Menor

A day we would suggest you not miss out on is the Therapeutic Mud experience that can be found at Playa Paraiso on the Mar Menor.

mud-map-2-location

We set off following Simply Networking directions for this day and went to the suggested Playa Paraiso beach in search of this mud.. Having parked our car, which was easy we set off on foot in search of the miracle mud. We passed Pelicans in the salt marshes that were great to see and climbed through a fence that had been held up where it appeared many people had dug before us. It is suggested that you take a trowel and a pot as you will have to dig down about a foot to get the smooth very black mud.

mud-12-teaserPeople pay a lot of money for mud baths and here on the Mar Menor, if you are prepared to do the dirty work yourself you can enjoy it free. The mud hole…was very HOT and slippery so be careful as you dig…

Having caught a wiff of this therapeutic mud,… I had second thoughts I must be honest but, I am glad that I braved it, smeared it on and got to enjoy the benefits of silky smooth rejuvenated skin that lasted at least a week.

mud-29-jill-and-terryDon’t be shy, head out and try this one, we had a great time laughing at each other and scaring the kids on the beach.  Take a trowel a few pots and a sense of humor. Have fun.

TOTANA

Totana, is a typical Spanish town located at the bottom of the Sierra Espuna mountain. It is steeped with history and tradition. Every Wednesdays between 7AM-2PM you will find the local market running either side of the river bed, parking for the market is located IN the river bed. Totana also has a very nice park, some random shops and plenty of Tapa bars if you fancy trying some of the local delicacies, which is exactly what we did on one of our trips to this old  Spanish town.

Above you will see a map of the tapa bars that we visited, of course it is too small here but you can visit the photo gallery by clicking on the picture above, where you will find a larger version that you can print and take with you on your adventure.

The best way in which to appreciate the history, traditions and atmosphere of Totana is to take a stroll round its streets. The architecture offers countless wonderful examples of ornamental craftmanship, such as traditional wooden barred doors and wrought iron doorknockers. A simple stroll round Totana also serves to highlight the convictions, beliefs and traditional religious feeling of its residents. These sentiments are best displayed in certain quiet streets, where the inhabitants have built monuments on the outer walls of their homes. These form part of a lengthy tradition and although some have disappeared over time, whilst others have been relocated, there are many which have been preserved and can be visited.

The crosses found on the way into town were built with a view to protecting the population from evils that lurked on the outside, such as disease, plagues and even the devil himself. These symbols of Christian protection were built out of stone in a tremendously austere fashion with no ornamental features, thus forming part of the old canon of traditional art. Take a trip to Totana on your next visit to Murcia and experience Spain as it should be.

PUERTA DE MAZARRON

Puerta De Mazarron, or The port of Mazarron is just 15 Km from our home at Condado De Alhama, the area is a Spanish vacation destination that really sleeps during the winter months but comes alive in June as the Spanish children and families head to the coast. The beach boasts calm waters that are ideal for safe swimming, there are restaurants, beach vendors and entertainment along a palm lined sea frontal area.

The local council accommodate the visitors providing handicapped access to the sea as well as a seating area that sits in the warm Mediterranean waters.

Sundays is market day at the Port and Saturday in the town of Mazarron.

We recommend this area for families and people that prefer a more populated beach with facilities.

Can get quite busy but buzzes with atmosphere. Enjoy your day at the Port of Mazarron.

CAMPOSOL

SO THIS IS CAMPOSOL

Town Square Camposol B

Camposol is the closest urbanizacion to Condado De Alhama golf resort.

Camposol is a British town in Mazzaron only 10KM from Condado front gate.

Camposol offers many services, restaurants, bars, hardware stores, cyber cafes, a business center, and supermarket. While Camposol may not be prettiest place on the Costa Calida the resort is established, it was opened 10 years ago and now has two commercial centers. It is divided into several sections but you will only find commercial centers on Camposol A and B.

Camposol A has Dotcom world which is an internet café, Gateway to India, the best Indian restaurant in the area in my opinion, a horseracing bar where you are able to place a bet, F&C car hire and a Spanish hardware store, also if you are planning a BBQ it has an English butcher amongst other small stores and bars.

Camposol B has the town square with Kennellys Irish bar that hosts all the football games, Alley Palley a 10 pin bowling and family entertainment center, several cabaret and karaoke bars and if you fancy a Chinese, China Wok buffet offers good value and good food form 6PM nightly. On Camposol you will also find Consum a good size supermarket where the prices are a little higher than you would find in a local Mercadona but they do offer a good selection of items, catering the British community.

Entrance to Camposol

If little Britain is your scene, you have found your comfort. Take a trip to Camposol and you will forget you ever left home.

ALEDO

Aledo is the castle you can see from the Jardins, we went up to see what this medieval village had to offer.

Aledo became famous in the region in 1086 when the noble Spaniard Garcia Giminez in command of his troops, took the village and settled his forces in it for a period of six years putting a stop to any moorish invasions. The village has a great location perched high in the mountain on the eastern end of Espuna.

You will feel like you have gone back in time you venture around this village that still has the wall surrounding it built by the muslims of Andulcia, its tiny streets lead to the fort of Aledo which is free to the public and the view from the top is fantastic. It will give you a new view of Polaris as they can see us in their distance too.

Suitable for people of all ages that enjoy walking and wildlife and with a little park at the foot of the village for the kids to enjoy, its a winner for all.

We enjoyed our day in Aledo and hope you put it on your list of desitinations to see. Have fun!

LORCA COVES

Today our journey takes us to the natural unspoiled coves and beaches of Lorca, a great day out but maybe not a drive for the weak hearted as you will be traveling on thin dirt roads for the last part of your journey.

38 KM from Polaris front gate, the drive is likely to take you around 40 minutes.

PLAYA DE PERCHELES

Once we reached the mountain it was time to put our little blue (rental) car to the test, up steep mountains on class B…. roads (dirt roads) climbing our way through a very picturesque setting, up and around for what seemed like miles but in fact was not very far at all and was well worth every extra heartbeat…

The days prior to our trip it had rained a lot and washed out some of the roads so it was particularly bad this day, exciting to me but my mother who had no idea what was in store for her having never been before, did actually want to get out of the car a couple of times while Terry negotiated some of the tight corners.

PLAYA DE PERCHELES

Traveling on a little further around the coast line you come to

SENDERISMO CALNEGRE hiking trails

On our way to Senderismo Calnegre

Take beer, wine a picnic and a book because you will not find any bars or any tourist conveniences at these beaches, but what you will find is beautiful natural unspoiled rugged coves. The kids can swim and play safely and parking is on or close to the beach so you can load the car up and be close to it for the day

PLAYA DE CALNEGRE

Leaving Calnegre on our way to PLAYA DEL SISCAL Just a few more KM’s

Finally we arrive at PLAYA DEL SISCAL I would say it is the most beautiful in my opinion, just one last steep hill to go…

Have a nice day at the Coves
