Alhama de Murcia Castle
Alhama de Murcia moves forward on the rehab of its castle. While we were in Alhama de Murcia today we had the opportunity to watch the helicopters erect the 2nd construction tower which is located above the first tower. We were curious so we left the market and had a look around. The staging area of this process was located on the back side of the castle along a service road.
The work on the castle and surrounding walls have been going on for some time now. With the completion of the second tower it means that work will begin on the upper section of this project. Scaffolding has been in place around the tower for months. The second tower crane will be able to deliver steel and concrete to this upper area with more ease and speed than when it was first built in the 11th and 12th century. The Fortress is of Islamic origin and was declared a Property of Cultural interest in 1985.
